HerHello ("we", "our", or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your personal information.
We collect information you provide directly, including your name, email address, phone number, date of birth, and profile photos. If you choose to verify your account, we also collect a live selfie taken inside the app. We also collect messages sent through the app, records of voice and video calls (described below), and usage data.
We use your information to verify your identity, create and manage your account, facilitate connections with other members, provide customer support, and improve our services. We do not sell your personal data to third parties.
Verification is optional. If you choose to verify, HerHello asks you to take a live selfie inside the app. A member of our team compares that selfie to your profile photos and then marks the account verified. We do not collect passports, drivers licences or any other identity document. The selfie is stored securely, is used only for this check, and is never shown to other members.
You can call a member you have matched with once your conversation has started. Calls are private between the two of you.
We do not record calls. The sound and picture of a call are carried live between you and the other member and are not recorded or stored by HerHello or by our calling provider.
We do keep a short record of each call: who called whom, when it started and ended, how long it lasted, and whether it was answered, declined or missed. We use this record to run the feature, to apply daily call-time limits, and to investigate reports of abuse.
HerHello uses your camera and microphone only during a call you start or accept (and, separately, for voice notes and your verification selfie). You can turn your camera or microphone off at any time during a call.
You can block or report the other person from inside a call. Blocking ends the call immediately.
Calls are carried by LiveKit, a real-time communications provider. To connect a call, LiveKit processes technical information such as your IP address, device and connection details, and the times you joined and left. LiveKit stores this session information in the United States.
All data transmitted through our app is encrypted in transit. We use industry-standard security measures to protect your information from unauthorised access.
We retain your data for as long as your account is active. You may request deletion of your account and associated data at any time.
Our app uses these services to work: Firebase (Google) for sign-in, data storage and app analytics; Google Cloud Translation, which receives the text of chat messages to detect what language they are in and, when you choose, to translate them; Expo, which delivers push notifications to your phone; RevenueCat for subscription management; GIPHY, which receives your search words when you search for a GIF or sticker; and LiveKit for voice and video calls. These services have their own privacy policies.
