🇵🇭 Meeting someone safely in the Philippines

Whether you live here or you are visiting, these are the habits that keep a first meeting relaxed and safe. They are written for women first, and they work for everyone.

Before you meet

• Talk on a HerHello voice or video call first. Someone who keeps avoiding a call is telling you something.
• Look at their profile together with what they have told you. Stories that change are a warning sign.
• Tell a friend or family member who you are meeting, where and when, and share your live location.
• Plan how you will get there and home yourself — your own ride, a booked car or public transport.

The first meeting

• Meet in a busy public place in daytime: a mall café, a restaurant or a food court. Malls are a normal, comfortable first-date choice here.
• Keep your drink and your phone with you. Leave if anything about the plan suddenly changes.
• Do not go to a hotel room or a private home on a first meeting, whoever suggests it.
• If you are visiting: family matters a great deal in the Philippines. Be patient, be respectful, and expect to be introduced slowly.

Money and scams

• Never send money, load, gift cards or crypto to someone you have not met — for a hospital bill, a ticket, a visa, a 'customs fee' or an investment.
• Nobody genuine needs your bank or GCash details, OTP codes or ID photos to date you.
• Investment or trading tips from a new match are a well-known scam pattern. Stop and report it.

If something feels wrong

• Leave. You never owe anyone an explanation.
